New Website Up and Running.
Hey, Hey, Hey!
It's 11:49PM and my website is up and running! It's exciting! Now, as much as I've put into this site, I don't believe it's finished. It has all the information displayed but now I must work on content, which will require me to draw more and create more and put together a new demo reel that showcases works from Zero VFX and others.
In addition to that, all of my social networks have been updated, including LinkedIN and my profile at monster.com. Very soon, I'll be applying to different jobs within the realm of Graphic Arts/Film and Video. It's nice to see my work displayed nicely all in one place. I hope you like it. Feel free to comment or make suggestions to better the site. I'm really tired. Onward and upward.

I'm about to go ASH.
I have a new website up that I put together myself using a notepad on my computer. It's been a lot of work, a lot of coding and it still needs some help but I got it up and running for now. I'm working on it to make sure it works on all types of machines. Please feel free to visit it as it's still being updated. www.williammcolon.com More artwork will be put up soon and as time goes on hopefully the site and this blog will be in sync.
That said, I need to draw more. After playing "Draw Something" I know that drawing more will help get the creative juices going again. Working on creating more instead of consuming the world is key to the success of any determined human being. I recently described this feeling for me to a fellow Hampshire Alum as "going ASH".
A few months ago, Jay-Z and Kanye West released an album together called Watch the Throne. Prior to to the album, a single was released called H.A.M which stands for Hard as A Motherf*****. The most notable line in the song is the chorus which states, 'I'm about to go H.A.M.' In my case, I'm about to go ASH, which actually just stands for Adele Simmons Hall. When I worked on my thesis film, this is the building that I spent the most time in. During that period, I felt like I could accomplish anything. And while the feeling of being motivated to create things is slowly returning, I still don't think it has the same effect when compared to Jay and Kanye.

Updates. It's been a while.
Hey,
I know. I know. I've been slacking on updating this blog. It's cause I'm busy reading books! I'm sorry if you're either my friend or a random person who checks this maybe once a month to see where I am. Here's a quick update:
I've switch jobs, long story. I'm still looking for a real career job; that will happen soon. I've promised myself by the end of the year. I'm working on a new website and soon after all of my social networking sites will be updated and I will be able to log back into them. I've lost my Twitter handle, which makes me increasingly sad every time I search @WillColon and it's some gangster kid from Connecticut who has one tweet and fifteen followers. Terrible. He also uses the accent on his last name. Kudos.
The new website will include a bunch of the old work and some new work but also, because I now have acquired some new gangster programming skills, I'm going to be building small websites for some people who have been wanting to commission me for work. Exciting.
HTML, CSS, and JavaScript are all now languages that I can read, so couple that with my excellent Photoshop and design skills and well... I'm a machine.
In the future some Flash and ActionScript will be uploaded to the website and you'll be able to see my skill there. I just haven't had any real time to put in some work for that. Although a certain cartoon idea that has been lingering for the Alex E. Edwards show that I sometimes work on, might be the perfect target project for that. I'll keep you updated on that.
Again, I'm sorry to be slacking on life so hard. I've been in the classic I-got-outa-college-so-now-I-can-be-lazy, I-blame-the-economy-for-my-lack-of-effort kind of funk. That is slowly going away as I buildup some momentum by expanding my knowledge and coupling it with what skills I already have.
See you soon.

Silently Working.
As you may or may not know, I've been working for AT&T as a Retail Sales Consultant(RSC) for the past eight months. I've slowly started producing sprinkles of graphic content to get the ball rolling for me within different departments with the ultimate goal of being out of sales and in marketing or advertising.
In the past few months I've designed two things; both basic Photoshop stuff for print.

Recently, there was a call for a submission from the in-store reps to create a small piece that would be used internally to describe the importance of what they call the 'Restocking Fee Sticker', which basically reminds people right on the box that they shouldn't return their new iPhone; not that they would want to anyway.
The call for submissions was a contest to see which store in the area had the best video editing chops and of course I had to step in and take over. With a quick brainstorm of the reps in my store we came up with two simple ideas: short silent films and psychic superpowers. I took this home and had a day to come up with a short 5 minute film on restocking fee stickers. I called it "The Restocking Fee-asco". Puns are funny by definition.
The music here comes from two places. The overall song comes from a movie called 'The Sting' produced in 1973 and when Donald's premonition ensues, it's the 'Angry Birds' theme song. The scratches, film dirt and grime come from a real 8mm film camera footage that I comped over and yes, the entire thing was shot on my iPhone 4S at HD Res 1920X1080. Yeah. The camera on this thing is actually amazing. The whole process, from camera to screen, took about 12 hours.
*UPDATE*
I've won the competition(and Bruins tickets)! Apparently, all of the area and district managers loved it! I'm excited to contribute something to the internal workings of the company and hope that this will open doors to other production/marketing possibilities. I'll keep you posted on that.

Local Work.
If I haven't gotten back to you, I'm sorry. I've been working on finding more local work. It's getting harder to juggle my way around my schedule to produce content for people while still keeping up a steady pay-off-the-bills-before-I-die job. Work at AT&T has me tied up with regular hours so when I'm not talking about the iPhone, I'm creating visuals for a local TV show.
The Alex E. Edwards show is fairly new and it airs on The Boston Neighborhood Network (BNN). BNN is a nonprofit and community-based organization providing Boston residents with affordable training and access to emerging media technologies. The host of the show asked me to produce an introductory credit sequence as well as some segment introductions for the show.
